Local construction company seeking Purchasing Department Executive Manager. Position would entail leading a department of 2-3 purchasing assistants responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring construction materials for public works and private projects. This role ensures that materials are delivered to the job site on time and within budget, while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities
• Procurement and Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and select vendors and subcontractors for plumbing and utility materials, such as
pipe, valves, and fittings.
• Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, contracts, and payment terms to achieve cost savings and maximize profitability for construction
projects.
• Inventory and Logistics: Monitor inventory levels of materials to prevent shortages, and manage logistics to ensure timely
delivery to the job site.
• Order Management: Process purchase orders (POs), track orders from placement to delivery, and verify that received materials
match orders.
• Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and site foremen to review blueprints, determine material
requirements, and align purchases with project schedules.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, vendor contracts, and invoices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction materials, utilities, mechanical, plumbing, construction
drawings, and industry standards.
• Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate with suppliers for the best price, quality, and delivery terms.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with procurement software, Excel Spreadsheets, Microsoft Office & Outlook, and other
specialized software.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and forecast market trends, review bid proposals, and manage budgets with estimators and
project managers.
• Experience: Generally, 2-5 years of experience in purchasing, specifically within the construction industry.
• Communication: Strong verbal, written, & digital communication a must
Typical Working Conditions
• Primarily an office-based role with occasional site visits.
• Fast-paced environment requiring the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• May require physical activity (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs) if in a hybrid, warehouse-involved role.
