Our cabin is 20 minutes from the north entrance to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, an hour east of Fresno, California. We have a map with great places to go in the parks in the photo gallery on our listing. The Grants Grove visitor center is in the parks about 10 minutes from the entrance. They have a restaurant, museum, general store and post office, and it is a short drive to the General Grant tree.

If you go further up that road, which is a continuation of Hwy 180 you will drive along the canyon and eventually descend the canyon and drive along the Kings River. You will go by Boyden Caverns, where you can stop and take a 40 minute tour. There is a gift shop, and then a climb up into the entrance.

Continue up Hwy 180 and you will come to Grizzly Falls, just off the road on the left. A very tall waterfall with a picnic area and restrooms...a great place to stop for a break. There is another visitor's center, Cedar Grove, after that off the road on the left.

Continue on about 10 miles and you will come to a favorite place, Zumwaldt Meadows. Park in the lot (there are restrooms there), and then walk along the river to the right and you will come to a bridge across the river and a wonderful rocky beach where you can wade and swim in the river. There is a loop trail which takes you through a meadow, and around and up along the rocks, and back to the beach.

Back down at the entrance to the Parks: If you turn right at the entrance to the Parks you will go down to Sequoia National Parks. This will lead you first to the back entrance to Hume Lake beach, great for swimming in the summer, and then to the trailheads for various hikes. Further down you will go by the General Sherman Tree, and then to Lodgepole Visitor Center, which has a museum, large shop, and restaurant, and is adjacent to the trailhead to Tokopah Falls. Past this is the road to Moro Rock and then to Crystal Cave. Further along you will eventually come out into the town of Three Rivers.
